Characteristics of an entity. Physical property: particular characteristic of a given system. Properties in mathematics: characteristic of certain mathematical objects; formally, a unary relationship.

In modern philosophy, mathematics and logic, a property is an attribute of an object, a red object is said to have the property of redness. Property can be considered a form of object in its own right, capable of possessing other properties. However, a property differs from individual objects in that they can be instantiated, and often in more than one thing. It differs from the logical / mathematical concept of class by not having any concept of extensionality, and from the philosophical concept of class by the fact that a property is considered different from the objects it possesses. Understanding how different individual (or particular) entities may somehow have the same properties is the basis of the problem of universals. The terms attribute and quality have similar meanings.{{WpLink}}
